ANZAC Cottage

ANZAC Cottage was built in one day, 12 February 1916, by the community of Mount Hawthorn as a home for returned soldier Private Porter and his family, and as a memorial for those who lost their lives in the tragic Gallipoli landing.

The cottage was State Heritage listed in 2000 and is also recognised on the Register of the National Estate and classified by the National Trust. See full place details on the National Trust website.

Both home and Gallipoli memorial, this small Mount Hawthorn cottage holds a special place for the local community and beyond. Take a tour and chat with our friendly volunteer guides to learn more about the history behind the 'house that was built in a day'.
